Thursdays from 6pm-8pm Ages 14-21 Sessions are run weekly at Avon Drama Studio, Warwick University, Westwood site For experienced young people only
The Thursday group is for young people aged 14-21 and has an emphasis on developing advanced performance skills in its participants with a focus on the creation of material for presentation. The group work through a range of physical techniques with a focus on developing an understanding of themselves as individuals and their place within the group. The group adopts a professional and committed approach to the work and it is their own creativity and expression which is central to the performance work. Ultimately, the work the group undertakes allows them to develop key life skills, becoming confident young people who are able to express themselves eloquently and understand the true nature of working together.
The Performance Group participants require a much higher level of professionalism and commitment to the sessions, as there is a strong emphasis on group work and presentation, therefore non-attendance could greatly effect the development of other participants. The work covers a wide variety of performance styles and introduces the participants to a range of scripts and texts. Work will develop participants' skills in the delivery and interpretation of text and also explore the physicality and presentation of character. Some aspects of the Performance Group work supports both GCSE and A' level performing arts, theatre studies and drama as participants will gain some understanding and practically explore the techniques of different practitioners, including Brecht, Stanislavski and Lecoq. It is not however, a requirement that participants are studying theatre as the work will be of a practical rather than academic nature.
